20 General Classroom Hours and

8 Classroom Hours in category, “Pest Control”.

This 20 General Classroom Hour Course has been designed to satisfy the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) and the Texas Structural Pest Control Service’s (SPCS) requirement that Structural Apprentices obtain 2 hours of training in ten specific subjects.  This 20 General Classroom Hour Course consists of 2 hours of training in each of these 10 specific subject matters.  There are four video lessons per topic with each video being 30 minutes long.

Texas Structural Pest Control: Apprentice License

20 General classroom hours, 8 classroom hours in Each Category , and 40 Hours on-the-job training in Each Category in which the apprentice is to provide pest control services.

Upon completion and documentation of the required study and on the job training and demonstrating competency in each area, the apprentice may work alone provided a certified applicator is physically present for personal instruction 3 days per week.  The studies and job training required before an apprentice may work alone are as follows:

(1) complete at least two hours of classroom training in each of the following subjects:

(2) (A) federal and state laws that regulate the industry;

(3) (B) recognition of pests and pest damage;

(4) (C) pesticide labels and label comprehension;

(5) (D) pesticide safety;

(6) (E) environmental protection;

(7) (F) application equipment and techniques;

(8) (G) pesticide formulations and actions;

(9) (H) emergency procedures, pesticide cleanup and procedures for immediate reporting of spills and misapplication;

(10) (I) basic principles of mathematics, chemistry, toxicology and entomology; and

(11) (J) non-chemical pest control techniques, including biological, mechanical and integrated pest management techniques. (Classified as 20 Hours General classroom training)

Also, you must complete at least 40 hours of verifiable on-the-job training and 8 hours classroom training in each category in which the apprentice is to provide pest control services.
